Work Experience: 
Martin Engineering, Neponset, Illinois 1979 – Present: A 3rd generation family business that solves problems in the handling of bulk solid materials. Product Engineer, Conveyor Products Division Manager, General Manager, Vice President and President. CEO from 1998 to 2005. Currently semi-retired as Chief Technology Officer and a Director. 
Johns-Manville Corp.1974 – 1979: Maintenance engineer for the Waukegan Illinois roofing, pipe and gasket operation.  Division Engineer at the world headquarters in Denver Colorado and Plant Engineer at the Fort Worth Texas roofing and paper mill.
Midwest Pipe Covering Antioch, Illinois 1972 – 1974: Manager of a division that manufactured plastic and cellular glass foam pipe and vessel insulation.
DeBacker Construction Davenport, Iowa 1971-1972: Residential carpenter. Constructed new homes and remolded older homes
Industrial Movers, Galesburg, Illinois. 1967 -1970: Millwright's helper.  Disassembled, moved and reassembled heavy machinery.

Board Experience:
Pap-R Products Co.: A converter of paper for the coin and currency wrapper market.  Director since 2001.
Conveyor Equipment Manufactures Association: An industry association. Director since 1999 and Treasurer in 2006. Issues: Transforming the association from a US to a global organization.
Thermo Products Inc.: A manufacture of residential heating and cooling equipment. Served as a Director from 1996 – 1997. Issues the Board faced were: Establishing a Board, Ownership transition, Establishing an ESOP and; Sale of the business. 
Martin Engineering: A $100 million marketer and manufacturer of bulk material handling components. Attended all board meetings from 1987 to 2005 as a guest. Named a Director in 2005. Issues the board has faced were: Developing an outside professional Board, ESOP implementation and close down, C-Corp to S-Corp transition, Average 15% per year growth, International subsidiary performance, Distribution Vs direct sales, Ownership transition from 2nd to 3rd generation, Building a professional management team and acquisitions.
Windows Beautiful, Inc. Co-owner and director of my wife's custom window treatment business from 1994 to 2004.  Issues faced: Start up of a new business.
The Emporium, Inc.  A Director of my brother's women's apparel retail store from 1985 to 1993. Issues the Board faced were: Under-capitalization, Shrinking market and Family business issues.

Publications: 3 books and over 30 technical articles on bulk material handing.   31 US patents and numerous corresponding foreign patents. Editor of “Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials”, the conveyor design manual for industry.  Numerous presentations on bulk material handling at Technical Associations

Certifications: Registered professional engineer in Illinois, Oklahoma, Nevada, New Hampshire and pending in Florida.  Licensed specialty contractor in California.

Business & Industry Involvement: Member of World Presidents Organization, Chicago Chapter: Past officer of the Illini Chapter of The Young Presidents Organization: Chairman of the Conveyor Manufacturers Strategic Planning Committee, Member of the Education Committee of The National Industrial Belting Association.  Founder of the International Flow Aids Association.

Community Involvement: Secretary, Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Education Committee; Metal Fabrication Apprenticeship program founding member: Vice President Kewanee School District 229 Foundation; State of Illinois Tech-Prep curriculum committee; Black Hawk College Foundation co-chair. Construction Experience:
One of my grandfathers was a rigging foreman at US Steel and taught me at an early age how to use hand and power tools. My other grandfather was a mason and painter who taught me how to do concrete work and paint.  I have worked as a carpenter doing rough and finish work. I have built several houses.  I have done mechanical and carpentry projects in several countries around the world.  I have built custom cabinets and all kinds of woodworking projects from small to major constructions. I have had experience pouring concrete slabs and retaining walls. I have experience building retaining walls with interlocking blocks.  I have laid interlocking pavers for several patios.  I have owned several rental properties since 1990 and do all maintenance and repair including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing and painting.   I have been the engineer and project manager for several large industrial buildings at Johns Manville and Martin Engineering totaling over 300,000 square feet.  I can weld and cut.  I have built catwalks, boat docks and many other projects fabricated from metal.   I can operate lathes, mills, shears, saws and presses in a machine shop.  I have fabricated, installed and tested R&D prototypes of mechanical products in industrial environments in many countries of the world.
